Category Cladding

Cladding is a type of covering for exterior building surfaces that protects the structure from the elements, and can be used for water-proofing, protection from the wind and other types of protection.  As well as its protective qualities, cladding can also be decorative and can be made from Wood, plastic, metal or masonry.  There are also so-called imitation claddings or ‘faux claddings’ that are typically composites of materials like asphalt, fibre cement and other building materials.  These faux claddings are designed to look like one of the more luxurious cladding types such as wood or stone, but with the added advantage of being a lot cheaper than the real thing.  The two main uses for cladding are for walls, sometimes called siding, and for roofs, also known simply as roofing.
